Employee using a phone to request assistance — VIMS EHS Lone Worker illustration
VIMS Lone Worker

A DELIBERATE SIGNAL. AN ASSIGNED RESPONDER.

SOS alerts and escalation

Not every danger starts with a fall. Manual SOS lets an employee request assistance through the app, while an agreed response path defines who takes action.

PROTECTION WORKFLOW

From a report to action

  1. 01

    Report danger

Use SOS in the app when you can deliberately request assistance. Do not wait for fall or immobility detection.

  2. 02

    Transmit information

With working connectivity, the alert and available location can reach the system. Check the sequence on the actual phone.

  3. 03

    Assess the situation

The dispatcher reviews the event and attempts contact. Displaying an alert does not mean assistance has started.

  4. 04

    Follow the procedure

No answer or confirmed danger requires the agreed response, with cover and emergency-service contacts.

SOS complements automatic detection

An employee may need help without a sensor signal. Deliberate alerts and man-down address different situations.

Danger without a fall

Feeling suddenly unwell, a service problem or an unsafe situation may justify an alert before immobility occurs.

A phone within reach

How the device is carried, gloves and working conditions affect app access. Check them in a safe rehearsal.

An unintended report

Agree how employees and dispatchers clarify an accidental alert. Do not assume a detection pre-alarm and manual SOS follow the same sequence.

Calling for help directly

When the situation requires it and you can do so, call emergency services. An app report does not replace an emergency call.

Escalation: who takes over when there is no answer?

Recipient readiness matters more than a notification channel alone. Assign responsibility for each shift and confirm available automation at deployment.

First recipient

Assign someone able to receive an alert, establish the workplace and initiate a response. Keep contacts current.

Cover

Define who takes over if the dispatcher is unavailable. Timing and escalation should follow risk assessment and tested configuration.

Channels and availability

Confirm available notifications, channels and activation conditions during consultation. Do not assume a fixed Push–SMS–email cascade or guaranteed delivery.

No network

An alert may not arrive without a connection. Before entering a dead zone, agree alternative communication, supervision or task-stopping rules.

Rehearse the complete SOS path

Test the working scenario, not just the phone.

  • Run a safe SOS test on the actual device.
  • Confirm receipt by the person on duty.
  • Check the employee and dispatcher no-answer procedure.
  • Agree who calls emergency services and provides location details.

VIMS Lone Worker is a beta assistive tool, not a rescue system. It does not guarantee detection of every event or alert delivery. Operation depends on network, battery, permissions and Android settings. In an emergency, follow the site procedure and call emergency services.
